Why You Might Be Ready for a Remodel

Quirks in a house are great. Some make a home feel uniquely ours. Others are just, well, quirky. Most of us have that one aspect of our home that we want to change or remove. That, among other reasons, may be a sign that you’re ready to remodel your home. We’ve put together some commonly cited reasons for a remodel, and if any of these sound like you, you may want to give us a call.

Consider your re-sale value.

Alaska boasts quite a few older homes and, while that full-wall mirror in your living room was a big seller in the 80’s, it may be time to bring it up to date. Not only will this make the space more livable for you and your family, it will add value if you decide to sell it down the road.

Kids are flying the coop or you’re welcoming someone new.

Now that you have an extra bedroom at the end of the hall, why not expand your bathroom? Life and family composition changes are an oft-cited reason for a remodel. Once-needed playrooms become superfluous as kids leave the house–or perhaps, you’re adding to your family and need to do some restructuring to account for infants that will grow to teenagers. Whatever the situation, space considerations for families, might be a signal for a remodel.

You no longer find that quirk charming.

When you first bought your house, you were probably willing to overlook certain aspects—the closed off kitchen, bizarre pillar in the living room, wet-bar in the basement—you get the idea. Either way, it’s now time for that quirk to go and become a more aesthetic characteristic of your home.

You love where you are and you want your dream home there too.

If you’ve lived in your house for a while, you’ve probably become attached to its surroundings. Maybe you’ve got the perfect commute time, or there’s a bakery within a short walk. Whatever your reasons, sentimental or practical, you may not want to leave the area. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to have your dream home. If a move doesn’t sound like the right option, yet your house doesn’t currently meet your dream home standards, a remodel is likely your best option
